THE WALNEY Junior Amateur Operatic Society have put on various successful shows and brought many iconic stories to life.

As far back as 1991, The Mail has been in the front row reporting on their performances.

The Mail reported: “The young actors of Barrow in Furness’ gifted operatic society bring to life another timeless classic to an ecstatic reception from their parents and the public.”

The show was performed with Rebecca Carrick in the leading role as Dorothy and David Smith as the titular wizard of Oz.

Taking place on October 11th, 1991, the Wizard of Oz saw a colourful mixture of inventive costumes and enthusiastically presented performances from the young cast.

The performance was repeated the following day.

In 2008, The Walney Junior Amateur Operatic Society’s show Barnum was performed in October of that year..

In 2009, the entire cast turned out a fun performance for Bugsy Malone where the players had fun with the iconic splurge guns.

In 2014, the legendary play Phantom of the Opera was performed.

The cast included the beautiful soprano Christine Daae played by Caris Kerr with Erik played by Lewis Devitt.

In 2016, the Walney players received nominations from the North West’s top amateur theatre awards for their performances.

Caris Kerr, Cameron Barlow, Hannah Featham-Jackson and Lewis Devitt were all up for National Operatic and Dramatic Association awards for their roles in Walney Junior Amateur Operatic Society’s production of Les Miserables last October.

Caris received the nomination for Best Leading Female Actor in a Musical for her portrayal of Cosette.

Cameron is nominated for Best Leading Male Actor in a Musical for his role as Jean Valjean.

Hannah was recognised for her role as Eponine with a nomination as Best Supporting Female Actor in a Musical and Lewis is up for Best Supporting Male Actor in a Musical after playing Javert.
