SIR Bradley Wiggins will be lining up for another crack at the Tour of Britain after being announced as one of the riders taking part in this year's race.

The 36-year-old, who became the first British rider to win the Tour de France in 2012 and won this race the following year, will be lining up as part of his own squad, Team WIGGINS.

He will be joined in the team by Owain Doull, with the duo having recently combined to win the team pursuit in the velodrome for Team GB at the recent Rio Olympics.

Doull enjoyed success on last year's Tour of Britain as well, taking the Chain Reaction Cycles Points jersey and finished on the podium after coming in the top ten finishers on all but one stage.

“We are delighted to be welcoming two of our Olympic Champions to the Tour of Britain just three weeks after their success in Rio,” said race director Mick Bennett.

“As a former winner of the Tour of Britain it is always a pleasure to welcome Sir Bradley Wiggins back to Britain's biggest race, while Owain Doull was the star of the 2015 Tour, showing he has a very bright future ahead of him.”

Also in the Team WIGGINS line-up is 22-year-old Jonathan Dibben, who will be riding in his third Tour of Britain. The remaining three riders in the team are still to be confirmed.

Wiggins and Doull join fellow Rio Olympic medallist Mark Cavendish, and compatriot Steve Cummings among the big domestic names who have already been confirmed for this year's race.

Spectators in the area will be able to catch them all in action when stage two of the Tour takes place between Carlisle and Kendal on Monday, September 5.
