A WALNEY man who was targeted by a fake lottery scam has warned others to be vigilant.

Last week, Kenneth Walton, of Walney, received a letter claiming to be from the Health Lottery UK.

It claimed he would receive £300,000 if he contacted a Liverpool-based office and also referred to the Board of Internal Revenue UK - a body which does not exist.

In the UK, an estimated four million people fall victim to scams each year with Action Fraud, the UK’s national fraud and cyber crime reporting centre, revealing earlier this year that they receive 8,000 reports of fraud every month.

Mr Walton said: "If it will serve any purpose, I won't mind at all to help."

Anyone who has received a scam letter should report it to Trading Standards or contact Action Fraud on 03001232040.
