SCHOOLCHILDREN and staff at Ulverston Victoria High School got in on the fun over Christmas by donning their best festive jumpers to raise money for good causes.

Ulverston Victoria High School raised money over the festive period for local charity St Mary's Hospice and for Save the Children.

The school’s corridors and classrooms were brightened up with colourful jumpers as UVHS held a Christmas Jumper Day on Friday December 16.

On Thursday UVHS handed over a cheque for £500 to a very grateful St Mary's representative.

Sharon Birch, citizenship coordinator, said: “Every year for the past four years we at UVHS have taken part in Christmas Jumper Day. This has always been participated in with great enthusiasm and delight by all pupils and staff alike.

"This year we managed to raise a brilliant £980.83 by adorning our woolly pullies for two great causes."

Melissa Dixon, St Mary’s Hospice community fundraiser added: “We’re delighted that UVHS chose St Mary’s to benefit from their fantastic fundraising. It’s another great way to introduce St Mary’s in our community, and a lovely way to share the message of thinking of others especially at this time of year.”
