IT was a morning of shock, relief and celebration for students at Millom School as they were handed their eagerly awaited A Level results.

The school boasted a high success rate with the majority of courses reporting a 100 percent pass rate of grades A* to E.

Headteacher Matt Savidge began his journey at the school two years ago and was pleased with how some of his very first students had done.

He said: "We are delighted with this year’s results and we are very proud of the individual achievements and collective success of our students.

"Achieving such results at the end of key stage five is the culmination of seven years of study at Millom School and provides students with the opportunity to go to university or on to an apprenticeship.

"We hope that students draw confidence from their success as they move on to a new phase in their lives and I offer congratulations to them all."

While the school was keen to praise the efforts of all its students, two shining stars were given special recognition for their amazing achievements.

Kathryn Phillips, and Clare Steel, both aged 18, both secured high grades in biology, chemistry, geography and mathematics. Miss Phillips achieved one A*, three As and one B will study Biology at Lancaster University come September.

Miss Steel plans on studying Applied social sciences at the University of Sheffield after achieving four As and one B.

But, it wasn't just in science where students showed off their talents- Amelia McPhillips got A* in English Literature and plans to continue her studies and follow in her brother's footsteps by attending the university of Gloucestershire.

Students on two of the sixth form’s brand new vocational courses, business and applied science, also performed well achieving a 100 percent pass rate, scoring the top grade of distinction star.

Colin Nunn, director of learning and standards for the sixth form said: "Congratulations to all students and I wish them the very best of luck for the future whether in higher education, apprenticeships or the beginning of their working life”.

Steve Newell, Chair of Governors, added: "It is great to see so many Millom School students being awarded the results they need for the next stage of their education or working life.

"I wish all of our students every success and hope that the successes of the sixth form will motivate and encourage other Millom students to make the most of the numerous opportunities available to them in school.
