MORE wintry showers are expected for the week, with snow forecast for many fells in the Lake District.
The worst of the snow is forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday and polar vortex, bitterly cold high-altitude air that sit over the North Pole, could weaken and sweep across the north of Britain.
Temperatures will struggle to get above freezing in some parts of the Lake District this week, with Helvellyn reaching a possible -3C during the day.
This weekend saw heavy snowfall in many parts of Cumbria, with motorists forced to dig themselves out of heavy snow in Alston and Nenthead.
The Met Office outlook states: "Tuesday morning will be dry, but persistent rain is expected later in the day, falling as snow on hills.
"This will clear, leaving blustery showers for Wednesday and Thursday."
