MOTORISTS reported long delays on the A591 between Ambleside and Windermere after a four-car crash caused traffic to come to a standstill.
Andrew Tighe, general manager of Langdale Chase Hotel in Windermere, was travelling from the lakeside town back to the hotel when he got caught in the congestion.
It took him 40 minutes to travel just under three miles as the road became gridlocked.
He said: "It went all the way past Windermere and it was absolute chaos. I can't believe it happened on bank holiday weekend."
According to Mr Tighe, the traffic has now cleared and normal service has resumed on the road.
