FIVE people have been arrested after an alleged gang attack in Barrow as police continue to guard and investigate the scene.

The alleged assault happened last night in Egerton Court on Barrow Island at around 7.25pm. Two men were arrested shortly afterwards on suspicion of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and a further three individuals were also later arrested.

As of this morning, four men - aged 18, 19, 22 and 25, and a 20-year-old woman, all from Barrow, are now in custody awaiting interview by detectives. Police had initially said two men aged 18 and 21 had been arrested but their ages have been updated after date of births were checked.

One of the men arrested was the 18-year-old victim, who was initially taken to Furness General Hospital after police were called to Egerton Court at around 7.25pm after reports of a disturbance.

The alleged victim was arrested after being discharged from hospital.

An eyewitness, a resident of Egerton Court, who did not want to be named, said: "We saw someone running around the corner holding his stomach. Then there were police around him trying to help. There was one person from the pub who was trying to help." Detective Sergeant
