TWO men were arrested after a serious assault left a man in hospital. Police confirmed the pair, aged 21 and 18, were in custody after being arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.
The victim, a man aged 18, was taken to Furness General Hospital after police were called to Egerton Court in Barrow at around 7.25pm this evening after reports of a disturbance.
The victim sustained injuries the police likened to puncture wounds, but they did not want to speculate further until the man had been treated in hospital.
An eyewitness, a resident of Egerton Court, who did not want to be named, said: "We saw someone running around the corner holding his stomach. Then there were police around him trying to help. There was one person from the pub who was trying to help."
Detective Sergeant Wayne Dixon of Barrow CID said police were in the area to reassure the public and added that anyone with any information about the incident should call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
