A NEW programme of digital arts events is set to be launched next week.

Signal Film and Media's 'Lost Stations' aims to give an insight into the diverse and innovative practices of Manchester-based digital artist Sam Meech.

It will kick off at Cooke's Studios in Abbey Road, Barrow, with a free talk from the well-known artist on Tuesday, from 6.30pm.

It is hoped the free Arts Council funded programme will open up a world of digital art for participants, combining digital image making, projection design, community engagement and machine knitting with a host of further activities planned throughout the year.

Director of Signal Film and Media, Loren Slater, said: "It is fantastic that the Arts Council are supporting such a diverse and exciting programme of world class digital art activities for people to experience here - right on our doorstep.

"This programme is full of opportunity for people of all levels of interest, you can take part in a workshop, come along to one of the artist talks and exhibitions or develop your own work for an exhibition."

The Lost Stations programme will build on the successful 'Lost Journeys' heritage project, which ended in August 2016 and will again take inspiration from the town's railway lines.

In addition, there will be a roster of world-class artists offering masterclasses in digital and moving image art, such as Rachel Maclean, MishkaHenna, Henry Iddon and Marshmallow Laser Feast.

There will also be talks from commissioned artists including Felicity Hammond, who will be unveiling new work inspired by Barrow.

Sam Meech is a lecturer in Graphic Design at Manchester School of Art and Founder of Re-Dock artist collective.

He has worked with a range of organisations including the National Film Board of Canada, the Open Data Institute, Royal Opera House, Liverpool Biennial, FACT, and Whitworth Art Gallery Manchester.

'Lost Stations' will begin on Tuesday March 14 at 6.30pm at Cooke's Studios on Abbey Road, Barrow.
