THE big screen local debut of supernatural thriller I Am Not a Serial Killer will see Barrow-born scriptwriter Christopher Hyde return to the town.

Signal Cinema has teamed up with the Vue cinema in Hollywood Park to offer some fantastic prizes for the event.

Hyde, who has recently been nominated for a British Independent Film Award for Best Screenplay, will be hosting a Q&A on Thursday December 15, and presenting the film, which has itself been nominated in two further categories.

The prize on offer is two packages that include a pair of tickets (with popcorn and drinks), and an original cinema poster signed by Christopher Hyde.

Barrow-born scriptwriter Christopher Hyde (photo from Twitter) I Am Not a Serial Killer follows troubled teen John Wayne Cleaver (Max Records), who must hunt down and destroy a supernatural killer (Christopher Lloyd), whilst keeping his own homicidal tendencies at bay.

Hyde says: "It’s got fantastical elements in, crazy things that could never happen to anyone. But at the heart of it, it’s about a young boy, trying to find is place in the world and figure out who he is and what life is all about."

The former Chetwynde School and Barrow Sixth Form College student has been working in the film industry for more than a decade, previously directing shorts such as Red Zone and The House In Spain, but this is his first produced feature.

He says: "I loved film and TV from an early age - you could just disappear into another world. I kind of trained myself to be in that headspace, I still had a normal life in terms of friends and everything else going on but I never had a problem being by myself. If I suddenly decided I had a great idea and wanted to spend a few weeks writing it that was more important than any sort of social side.

"Some people get lucky and can write amazingly straight away, but that wasn’t me and I must have written hundreds of scripts and all of which are terrible, but I had to do that to hone the craft."

After the screening, Hyde will talk about his experiences writing the US film festival circuit hit in an interview before inviting cinema-goers to join in a question and answer session.

Philip Northcott, project manager at Signal Cinema, says: "Christopher has written an amazing mix of teen movie, gruesome crime flick and black comedy horror. This is a future cult classic in the making."
