THE humble photograph has the power to change the world, to inspire, it can even bring a tear to the eye.

Today is World Photo Day , a celebration of the power of photography. After being set up by Australian photographer Korske Ara seven years ago, the movement has since grown into a worldwide event.

After 250 people signed up to take part in 2010, more than 500 million people were reached through social media last year.

Here at The Mail we have decided to showcase some of the best photographs taken by our incredibly talented staff photographers.

Whether it is a picture taken from a hot air balloon, Newby Bridge laid out like a painting beneath; or a graceful ballerina leaping through the air, these pictures are ones we hope will uplift and inspire you.

This year we want you, our readers, to share images that you have been inspired by. Whether it is a painstakingly captured image of the sun setting over one of our many lakes, or a spontaneous snap never to be recreated, we want to see them

Email your submissions to news.em@cnmedia.co.uk, or send us a message on our Facebook page and we will do our best to showcase as many of them as we can.

Keep your eyes peeled throughout the day, as we will be changing out Facebook profile picture over the weekend with some of our favourite images.
