THE Cartmel Village Society is inviting budding photographers to enter the Iconic Cartmel competition.

Whether you're a professional photographer or a smartphone snapper, all applications will be considered.

The aim is to capture a natural or architectural feature, scene or event that represents the village.

Judges will choose 12 of the best photographs which, in their view, capture the heart and soul of Cartmel.

As an annual photography competition, the photos will be used for a calendar funded by the CVS, with this year's sales for the benefit of the priory church.

Winners will be given a token prize of £10, a calendar and their name printed alongside the photograph they have taken.

Acclaimed local photographer Nina K Claridge will be assisting the CVS in choosing the winning photos, which will feature in Cartmel Village Society's 2018 calendar.

She said: "In my opinion, Cartmel is unique.

"It has an exceptional mix of culture, history and community. The iconic building of the priory, the gatehouse and square and the River Eea, among others, give many opportunities to photographers and other artists to capture the beauty of the village.

"I was truly honoured to be asked to judge this competition for the benefit of the priory church and wish all of the entries the best of luck.'

Photographs must be entered into the competition by midnight on June 30. The chosen winners will be announced after Sunday service at Cartmel Priory on July 9.

The winning photographs will be posted onto the CVS website www.cartmelvillagesociety.co.uk and 200 calendars will go on sale in the priory shop in Cartmel on August 1.

If you would like to enter, please send your photograph to cartmelvillage
society@gmail.com alongside your full name, age and contact details, including your address and telephone number. Photos must have a resolution of at least 1MB, be taken outdoors and shot in landscape format.
