'ALL options' are being explored to stop parking problems on a road near Roose train station.

The section of Yarlside Road from Roose Road to Sedgefield Road is a narrow street that has to cater for both residents and commuters.

Barrow town councillor Paul Griffiths has written to Westmorland and Furness Council about the issue after he received complaints from people living in the area.

In some cases, he was told cars were seen parking on the street and the drivers then took out suitcases - suggesting that they were going on holiday and their vehicles were going to be there for some time.

Cllr Griffiths said: "Various residents over the last year or so have complained to me that the road is often congested with rail commuters who park their cars and depart on trains."

He said residents are fine with drivers dropping off and picking up rail passengers but the road gets 'quite congested.'

Cllr Griffiths said he reported the issue to the council and they said that they would 'explore all options.'

He said they told him that a permit system may not necessarily suit all residents for 'a wide range of reasons.'

He praised the council for responding quickly and for promising that they would run a residents consultation in June.

The councillor shared a letter he received from the council confirming that the consultation is due to take place this year.

The letter states that the team has 'established a plan of action' for his inquiry.

It continues: "The initial consultation documents will be ready shortly and residents will be consulted on the proposed plan. This will give us the opportunity to collaborate on a more effective scheme."

Roose station is on the Furness Line, serving the suburb on the edge of Barrow.
