A resident in Barrow has hit out at local dog owners over the reportedly growing problem of fouling in the area.

The local, who lives on Buccleuch Street, wanted to share their view on the issue and how it does not look to be changing anytime soon.

They commented: "Dog owners that live on Buccleuch and Fenton Street in Barrow are just using the back street and the pavements to let their dogs foul and have no intentions of cleaning up after them.

"When confronting them, you just get abuse thrown at you and fingers stuck up at you."

They resident described how, despite council efforts to at least limit the problem, the behaviour in the community has not seen a positive uptick.

"We have contacted the council on many occasions and they get it cleaned, but it’s back again within a few days," said the resident.

"The council also put signs up on the alley gates but they [dog walkers] just ignore those as well and carry on to let the dogs do what they want, where they want and leave it for residents and the poor bin men to walk through."

In recent times, the issue has not been one just localised to the two streets, with other areas in Barrow also suffering.

In January, a resident in Ormsgill helped to prompt councillor reaction towards dog fouling between Middle White Close and Chester Place.

At the time, Councillor Beverly Morgan said: “Dog fouling is disgusting - it’s a hazard to health and is a criminal offence that can result in fines, it’s as simple as that.

"That’s not bad dogs, that’s bad owners - there are no excuses, so dog owners need to pick up after their dogs and dispose of it properly.

"If the litter bin is full, they are expected to either take the dog waste home or use the next available litter bin - it’s not difficult."
