DEFENDING Knockout Cup holders Walney face Askam in the semi-finals of the CJS Cars-sponsored competition at Brisbane Park tonight.

Askam go into the tie against the Barrow and District League champions buoyed by a 46-24 victory over Roose Pioneers in the last league game of the season and supporters can expect a fast, open game. The other semi, at Fallowfield Park sees last season’s finalists Dalton take on Ulverston.

Another thriller is anticipated with a young Dalton side sure to push the Dragley Beck outfit all the way.

Ulverston booked their place in the semis with a 34-28 win over Barrow Island.

They had a slender 14-10 half-time lead but held on for the victory in a match where Luke Cresswell had a fine game for the Island touching down four times but finishing on the loosing side.

Tries for Ulverston came from Brad Williamson, 2, Matt Dean, 2, Duane Bell, Jake Spedding and John Hutton with Bell, 2, and Liam High kicking the conversions.

Barrow Island’s other try scorer was John Doherty and Mike Pearce kicked four goals.

Fixtures tonight: CJS Cars Knockout Cup semi-finals (both kick-off 6.30pm): Askam v Walney, Brisbane Park; Dalton v Ulverston, Fallowfield Park. The final will beheld at Craven Park on Friday, September 11.
