ON his long-awaited return to the field following injury, Matty Holmes bagged a brace of tries for the North to help them win the battle of Walney Island.
The Barrow Raiders forward opened the scoring in the first of four quarters of the origin match, with Harry Gee converting.
In the second period Dave Warne crossed for the South with Matty McKee adding the goal.
The North regained the lead in the third spell with tries from Jamie Morrow and Harry Gee plus one goal from Mark Morris with Jonathan Corkill crossing for the South, and McKee converting for 16-12.
In the final quarter Gee and Holmes went in for their second tries, along with one from Jake Deveraux. Morris added two goals. Souths player-coach Anthony Horton crossed and converted but it wasn’t enough.
Paul Zaccarini, father of the late Dean, presented the trophy and man of the match awards to Harry Gee and Mike Elliott.
