WALNEY Cents go for County Cup final glory as they take on Cumbria League champions Hensingham at Distington.

Millom take on Wigan St Jude’s at Devonshire Road, while fellow National Conference Division Two side Askam are on the road to Thonhill.

Flying the flag for rugby league in Furness are Hindpool, who entertain Folly Lane in the North West Men’s League.

Hensingham v Walney Central

(Cumbria Cup Final, Distington, 2.30pm).

TWO weeks after running the undefeated Cumbria League champions close (38-30) Cents are back up the coast as they bid to lift the County Cup.

Coach Jan Elliott is quietly confident that his troops can pull off a win.

He said: “There’s no reason why we can’t win. We ran them close with an under-strength team and this time we have our big stage players back.

“It’s probably one of our strongest sides this season that I put out and it’s good to see Harry Gee back at first team level (he has played mainly A-team this season).

“I think it will be a close game and it depends who settles down the earliest, manages the game and takes their chances.”

Liam Finch – on the brink of retirement and requiring knee surgery – is back to boost the squad, along with brother James, and Mike Whitehead. But unavailable are Jamie Morrow, Declan Gavin Jake Devereux and Connor Pearce.

Hindpool v Folly Lane

(Brisbane Park, 2.45pm)

THE Tigers are in search of a quick reversal following last week’s 50-4 defeat at the hands of the Manchester club.

In their final game of the season, a much stronger Tigers side will take to the field with the return of Jamie McIlroy, Connor McDermott, Shannon Coleman and Josh Bayliss. But not taking to the field are Josh Archer, Scott McGuckin and Ryan Smith.

Coach Phil Cubiss is also available following a wrist injury and he is optimistic that his side can end the campaign on a high.

He said: “Last week was our first game for six weeks for different reasons, so we were a little rusty and it told on us. We played better than the scoreline suggests and were over the line on four occasions with players held up.

“They were the better side and ground us down. But this week we are stronger all round and it is a game that we can win and make up for last week.”

Millom v St Jude’s

(Devonshire Road 2.30pm)

PLAYER-COACH Tom Sibley, plus Connor Mitchell and Luke Brady return for the Woollybacks’ final home game of the season, and Sibley is quietly confident his side will put up a good show against a team pushing for promotion to the first division.

Sibley, who missed last week’s defeat at the hands of promotion hopefuls Thornhill, said: “I was otherwise engaged last week, but from all accounts the lads played very well and had a couple of tries ruled out and that could have had a different bearing on the final result if they had stood.

“ It would be nice to end our final home game with a win and show that we can still compete with the clubs at the top like St Jude’s and Thornhill, even when not at full-strength.”

Thornhill v Askam

ASKAM’S push for a top-six place and the play-offs is still on track, but they still face tough games with leaders Oulton next week and St Jude’s on the final day.

However, half-backs Joe Satterthwaite, and Adam Jackson are both ruled out along with Liam Saunders, Jack Cairns and Kris Tyson.

Back to bolster the forwards are Jamie Butler, Sam Dowsett and Tom Wilkinson.

Coach Mike Wilson said: “It is going to be tough, but our play-off hopes are in our own hands with Crossfields a threat.

“But if we can get the wins we should be okay. We will have to be switched on, especially in defence.”

Stanningley v Barrow Island

JAKE Carter makes a welcome return for the Island after a long lay-off with a hamstring problem, while joining him is former Island youth product Ellis Gillam after being released by Warrington.

Coach Joe Elliott said: “Ellis wishes to play for us one more time as he hopes to get back on the professional ladder. He is a good back row player so he will boost the squad.

“We will have to be alert throughout as they have a massive pitch, so we will have to be up to speed.”

Jack Sutherland has been a big miss for most of the season with a bad ankle injury, while work commitments rule out Matt Parkinson.
