HOLKER Pioneers entered a new chapter in their long and proud history recently, with former players Chris Larkin, Mike Backhouse and Dan Cargan taking over as joint-coaches.
Pioneers are a proud club with a fine standing in the amateur game, but they have enjoyed up and downs in the 20 years since the merger of the old Holker Pioneers club with Roose in 1997.
Having suffered from a player shortage in recent seasons, this year will see Pioneers operate in the Barrow and District League, with the plan being to rebuild the club from the mini-rugby ranks up to first-team level and enter the North West Men's League.
Here, we take a pictorial trip down memory lane, with photographs of many successful Pioneers sides of the past up to the time when the club pooled resources with Roose.
New players are always welcome as Pioneers prepare for the new season, with training sessions taking place at their Redwaters home on and Tuesdays and Thursdays (6.30pm).
