Millom 10 Crosfields 34

MILLOM started life back in National Conference Division Two with 34-10 defeat at the hands of Crosfields, writes ELLIOT BURROW.

The home side started on the back foot, and some hard running from Crosfields' Scott Cullen saw him hit the line at speed and go over from 15 metres.

Minutes later the Warrington side were in again as quick hands put Dan Reid in for 12-0.

The Devonshire Road outfit were facing a stiff task, but the first half belonged to them from there on.

They grew into the game and they were rewarded with a passing move to the left, which saw Ross Brookes loop on to the back of a play and get through a gap to cross the whitewash after 19 minutes.

Lee Postlethwaite could not convert, but Millom were back in it.

The hosts had numerous attacks which saw them go close, but the visitors managed to hold their lead.

As the half-hour-mark approached, Millom lost full-back and try-scorer Brookes to a head injury from a nasty clash of heads.

To make matters worse, the visitors scored against the run of play through Reid's second of the afternoon. The conversion was missed and Millom went in at the break trailing 16-4.

The second half saw Millom on the front foot, enjoying possession in the opposition half.

They went over the try line through a hard run from Ethan Kelly after just two minutes, with Postlethwaite adding the extras from in front of the posts.

However, from this point on, the visitors took control through tries from Joe Moore and Jack Reid.

The score stood at 26-10, and they added two more points from a penalty to increase the margin.

Millom fought hard, but incomplete sets allowed the pressure to mount and Crosfields crossed again through Moore, converted by Jack Reid.

The away supporters' man-of-the-match went to Kelly, and the sponsors' man-of-the-match to Tom Newbegin. Crosfields best was Jack Reid.
