Millom 36 Clock Face Miners 22

MILLOM’S return to Coronation Field was a happy one as the Woollybacks managed to hold on and end the visitors’ 100 per cent record with a ruthless display.

The home started the brighter, with player-coach and ‘Mr Consistency’ Tom Sibley crossing after only two minutes after he powered over from close range. Lee Postlethwaite converted.

It wasn’t long before they were in once more when Dominic O’Brien managed to squeeze his way over the whitewash.

Postlethwaite had no problems and with only seven played, Millom led 12-0 over the unbeaten National Conference Division Three outfit.

Player-coach Sibley continued to lead by example with another try for his tally after he crossed following another period of Millom dominance.

Postlethwaite did what he has done all season slotting over another conversion and Millom had quite quickly delivered some big blows to the opposition.

The Miners looked to have received the wake-up call they needed, and when they got the ball in Millom’s half, they made no mistake in showing why they had started the season so well.

Firstly Luke Leyden crossed, before a couple of minutes later Jamie Lucas got them right back in the contest with a great finish. And with Jordy Cressor converting both, the score was 18-12.

Right on the stroke of half-time however, Millom regained control when Tom Newbegin darted over underneath the sticks.

Postlethwaite converted and Millom went in at the break leading by a 24-12 scoreline.

Clock Face started the second-half quicker with two tries in 10 minutes pulling it back to a two-point margin. Alex Burke touched down and Jamie Lucas scored his second as the visitors slowly began to turn the screw. Highlock converted one of them, which meant Millom kept the lead.

Postlethwaite missed a penalty goal attempt, but that didn’t matter as impressive youngster Kyle Evans raced over for a score. Postlethwaite made no mistake with the extras.

And the Woollybacks rounded off a fine-display when Jonathan Hodgson crossed for a try very similar to Evans’ from dummy half.

Postlethwaite converted and ended the visitors’ 100 per cent record.

Man of the match for Millom went to the brilliant Sibley, while for Clock Face full-back Jamie Lucas was outstanding.
