DALTON claimed their first Barrow and District League win of the season as they beat second-in-the-table Ulverston, writes JEFF COWARD .

It was a great game, nip and tuck throughout, with Dalton edging home by a slender 20-18 margin.

Dalton led 14-12 at the break before Ulverston clawed their way back to 18-all. But with one minute left on the clock, Ulverston were penalised for not standing square at the play-the-ball.

Ryan Johnston stepped up to slot the ball between the uprights to give Dalton a hard-earned victory.

Tyler Batty, (2), Ross Coulson and Joe Crarey were the Dalton try-scorers, with Ryan Johnson kicking two goals.

For Ulverston Eric Hall, Andy Allen and Matty Kaye crossed the whitewash and Liam Whinfield added three goals.

Top of the league Askam had a convincing 36-6 win over Walney Central. Walney were still in it at half-time trailing only 18-6, but they fell away badly in the second half, and all they had to show for their efforts was a Sam McAllcott try and a George Nicholls kick.

For Askam Jack Cairns, Luke McIntee, man of the match Sam Broadley, (2), Chris Broadley and Dale Lambert were the try-scorers. Brad Jackson landed six goals.

In a high-scoring game at Rating Lane Barrow Island defeated bottom club Hindpool 48-28.
