BARROW Island have the chance to pick up two valuable points in their push towards the top two in National Conference Division Two tomorrow.

They host bottom side Stanley Rangers, while Ulverston have a tougher home assignment against Chorley Panthers in the North West Men's League.

Hindpool Tigers and Walney Central are both on their travels, with no games for Askam and Millom.

BARROW ISLAND v STANLEY RANGERS

(Rating Lane, 2.30pm)

BARROW Island should be in no danger of dropping the points on offer when Wakefield side Stanley Rangers visit Rating Lane.

The West Yorkshire side prop up the ladder in the third tier of the National Conference, with the poorest for and against record.

They have only registered 102 points and have conceded 454, with only one win from nine outings to date.

Island are not at full-strength, however, with forwards Joe Spencley, Joe Mallinson, Matt Parkinson and Carl McBain all unavailable.

Jake Carter and Callum Nelson are back in the fold, along with several fringe players, including promising youngsters Elliott Campbell, Alex Mason and and Reece Bartlett.

Carter has been diagnosed with a knee problem, but it will not keep him on the sidelines, and the crafty half-back will be a boost the back division.

Island coach Joe Elliott said: “We are without a few forwards, but we have young lads waiting in the wings and one or two will get a run out.

“Last week against Oldham St Annes we struggled in the first half as everything went their way, but in the second half we played probably our best rugby of the season.

“Stanley may be down at the bottom, but you can't always judge what will happen – they could come with a strong team, who knows.”

ULVERSTON v CHORLEY PANTHERS

(Dragley Beck, 2.30pm)

LATE calls will decide Phil Atkinson's final 17 as Ulverston face a tough game with the Panthers in North West Men's Division Two.

Steve O'Connor, Dan and Jake Akred, and Che Smith are all ruled out.

Into the squad come Howard Rowley and Matty Kaye, with others to be announced.

Atkinson said: “We had a good win last week against Wigan St Cuthberts and face another hard one as the Panthers are going quite well.

“Both defences were brilliant last week, with no tries in the second half; it was probably our best defensive display of the season.”

HARESFINCH v HINDPOOL TIGERS

PHIL Cubiss will delay naming his Hindpool 17 for the trip to Haresfinch in North West Men's Division One until the 11th hour as a number of players cannot make the journey.

He said: “We have a mountain of players unavailable for several reasons and will not know what's going on until late on.

“I really don't know at this stage what the team will be.”

ROCHDALE MAYFIELD A v WALNEY CENTRAL

NORTH West Men's Division One leaders Walney go in search of their first double of the season, but they will be without newly-wed Jamie Morrow for the trip to Rochdale.

Joint-coach Dave Bell, himself recently married, said: “We had a very good win at home against them, and though we will be a little light in the forwards we should still have a strong side out.”

The Cents squad will be finalised tonight.
