ROOSE Pioneers and Askam must do it all again in the Harry Warman Cup tonight, a week after an intense Barrow and District League game in which they could not be separated.

A late missed conversion meant Roose had to settle for a share of the spoils at Fallowfield Park, as they went top of the table.

The clash ended 18-18, with Pioneers coming from being 16-6 down at half-time to grab a point in the closing stages.

Stuart High put Askam in front with an unconverted score and that was followed by Cameron Cooper going 60 metres to score under the posts, followed by High converting.

High then turned provider for Sam Broadley to score a try which was also converted, although Ade White gave Roose a glimmer of hope with a try which Euan James converted just before the break.

Pioneers made the perfect start to the second half when visiting man-of-the-match Corne Els crashed over, dragging three defenders with him, for an unconverted try.

Home man-of-the-match High booted a penalty for Askam to edge them further ahead, yet Roose hit back again when player/coach Chris Larkin finished off a move with an unconverted try to reduce the deficit to four points.

As the game moved into the final five minutes, Roose's Dillan Taputu powered over for a try which brought the scores level. However, the conversion was missed and it ended honours even.

The sides do it all again tonight in the first round of the Harry Warman Cup, although this time the handicapping system means Askam have a five-point head start.

Elsewhere in the league, there was a youthful look to both Barrow Island and Millom when they faced each other as both sides fielded players coming out of the under-16s.

Josh Yeo, Ryan Higgins, Reece Craig, Reece Bartlett, Spencer Hoyland – who kicked one goal – and Gaz Shaw – who also kicked three goals – were the try-scorers for Island as they ran out 32-10 winners.

Millom's scores came through tries from Conner Sykes and Kyle Evans, with Evans kicking a conversion as well.

The match between Ulverston and Walney Central was called off due to the former being unable to raise a side.

Ulverston will be hoping to be able to put a team out tonight when they are due to start the defence of their Harry Warman Cup crown away to Hindpool Tigers.

The other matches see Millom host Barrow Island and Walney at home to Dalton.
