THERE will be a new name on the Harry Warman Cup after holders Ulverston crashed at the first hurdle, writes Jeff Coward.

They were beaten 66-32 by Hindpool Tigers under the handicap system.

Ulverston gave a good account of themselves in the first half, trailing only 18-14. But after picking up some injuries, Ulverston struggled to live with the Tigers after the break.

Connor McDermott and Nathan Sneezby both scored hat-tricks and there were further tries for Charlie Crawford, Lee Boyd, 2, Matty Preston and Connor Goodings. Shannon Coleman added nine goals and Goodings one.

For Ulverston Brad Williams was the hero, scoring all their points, with three tries and a goal.

Barrow Island travelled to Millom and found the Woollybacks in scintillating form, going down 60-36.

Henry Robinson, HadleyThompson, Paul Carter, 3, Dylan Sykes, Nial Harris, Adam Robinson, and Gary Carter, 2, were the Millom try-scorers with Macauley Bowman landing six goals.

Shane Sanderson and Gaz Shaw scored two tries each with Ryan Harris, Harry Higgins and Rhys Bartlett also crossing the whitewash. Shaw also kicked two goals.

In a thrilling game at Central Drive, Dalton moved into the next round after defeating Walney 32-24 on the handicap system.

It was a fast game throughout, with both sides fielding talented lads coming out of the under-16s age group.

For Dalton Scott Paisley, Harry Gordon, Jack Stevenson, Josh Grant and Ryan Baines, 2, were the try-scorers with Pat Kelly kicking four goals.

Andy McFarland and Cameron Hetherington scored the Walney tries, with Harry Gee kicking two goals.Due to Fallowfield Park being unfit, Askam switched their Harry Warman Cup game to Redwaters, and how it paid dividends with Askam running out convincing winners 53-16 against Roose Pioneers.

Always in command, Askam were 30-6 up at half-time. Dylan Birkenhead, who had a fine game at full-back, scored two tires.

Other tries came from Dale Lampton, Sam Broadley, Brad Kavanagh, Gary Bolton and and Brad Jackson, who also kicked eight goals.

For Pioneers Shaun Mason, Scott Lancaster and Will Morrison touched down, with Ian Jones landing a goal.

The semi-final line-up sees Dalton at home to Hindpool and Millom entertain Askam.It’s back to the league programme tonight with Roose Pioneers looking to keep hold of top spot when they host Barrow Island.

Second-placed Dalton travel to Millom. With the Woollybacks hitting a purple patch at home Dalton will have to be at their best.
