BARROW and District League leaders Roose Pioneers head to Dalton for a tough test of their credentials tonight.

There is little to choose between these sides, with Dalton having shown themselves as a young team who play fast, open rugby – led by Ryan Baines, who is a real match-winner.

Roose are a more experienced side, but they will have to be at their best to knock their hosts out of their stride. A Dalton win will put them joint-top with their opponents.

Dalton go into the game on the back of a 26-all draw at Millom last week.

The Woollybacks went in front on five minutes, but once Dalton got into their stride they shot into a 20-6 half-time lead.

Millom stepped up a gear at the start of the second half to make it 20-16, but the visitors were 26-16 up with 15 minutes to go.

The hosts' never-say-die attitude saw them score two late tries, one converted, for a share of the spoils.

Try-scorers for Millom were Jordan Moyes, Paul Carter (2), Jamie Ryce and Conner Mitchell. Jordan Williams kicked three goals.

For Dalton, Tom Sharp, Harry Gordon, Ryan Baines, Elliott Jackson and Scott Paisley crossed the whitewash, and Paisley landed three goals.

There are only two games in the league tonight, and the other sees Ulverston at home to Barrow Island.

Mid-table Island will be looking to secure that all-important fourth position at Dragley Beck. But if Ulverston can field a side – which, like their opponents tonight, they were unable to do last week – and with the first team having no game, then home advantage could be a telling factor.

Last week's other fixture saw Walney go to Hindpool and come away with a 38-24 victory.

Cents had the upper-hand throughout, with a strong first-half performance giving them a 24-6 lead. They started the second half with two quick tries, and it looked like a landslide on the cards.

Hindpool had other ideas, and clawed their way back to 34-24 before a late Walney try.

The Hindpool try-scorers were Tony Rickleton, Connor McDermott (2) and Shannon Coleman, who also kicked four conversions.

Walney's Adam Ford was the hero, with four tries. Joe McMullen, Jake Deveraux and Jordan Staffieri also crossed, the latter kicking five goals.
