WITH the new rugby union season coming over the horizon, Hawcoat Park and Millom lock horns at Wilson Park tomorrow.

Both teams will be putting squads out to get the blood pumping for the coming season.

Millom have had a good pre-season, and first-team coach Adam Redhead has a positive mind-set going into his second year in charge.

The team’s performances towards the end of last season in the Cumbria League were on the up, and the Blue and Whites expect more success this year.

The run-out against higher-division Hawcoat will give the players a good chance fight for the starting positions.

Millom have a couple of new faces at the club this year, who will improve the squad and will get a good run out tomorrow.

Luke Coulson will be stepping up into the pack from the junior ranks and will look to make an impact with his direct running and big work-rate, while George Quinn is an outside back whose speed gives him a lot of potential and provides Millom more options out wide.

The forwards will be led by Steve Watson, and Kevin and Kieron Rogan, who will be amply backed up by the second-row duet of Ian Cummings and Kieron Coulson.

An exciting back row of David Thompson, Matty Jordan and last season's skipper Trevor Dixon will look to control the breakdowns for Robbie Pattinson to get clean ball away to Joe Moyes.

George Quinn's pace could be key, with fellow wing man Jarty Robinson on the opposite flank.

Millom go for experience in the centres, with Chris Park and John Falconer holding court and Jordan Moyes on hand from full-back.

A strong bench, with Kyle Barnes, Joseph Tomlinson, Luke Coulson, Ryan Carter and Callum Loughran, gives the home side a strong feel.

Hawcoat's line-up will be a good mix of first and second-teamers, with a few new faces and some of the new generation from their youth section.

With many players missing due to holidays, a skipper is yet to be announced, but with Martin Kennedy available there is a chance the old warhorse could take the reins.

The returning Benji Platt will be looking to make the full-back shirt his won this season in the new Cumbria League One, with fellow returnee Patrick Samiento bringing his power and brother Fran into the game.

Young guns Harry Higgins and Jack Lord will be looking to make an impression this season, with Jack Shannon returning after long-term injury.

Grady Slater, Chris Burns and Ash Mowat are hopeful of being available, with the latter possibly teaming up with new player Jordan Bayliff, a big presence who could be a game-changer on his day after a good pre-season.

Front-row regulars Paul Woodburn and Ryan Brown are available to push the pack forward, with the Sayle brothers – Lewis and Rory – always on hand to take the ball on.

A much fitter Harrison O'Brien takes to the park, with Josh Vial also throwing his hat into the ring.

Wing men Rodney Odondi, Adam Armstrong and Jay Crowe all make the trip, along with Scott Garnett and Austin Meadows, in what will be a tough first run but also a good chance to socialising between the clubs.
