SIR John Barrow's cricketers showed they are in fine fettle with double success in Furness Kwik Cricket competitions.

The Ulverston school took the title at the area's girls competition at Dalton CC, then a day later followed up with victory in the mixed festival at Barrow CC.

The competition in the glorious early summer sunshine at Ernest Pass saw Sir John Barrow overcome Victoria Academy in the semi-finals, while Askam Village School came past the challenge of St Columba's.

SJB were too strong in the final, winning by 50 runs to cap off a successful day that saw schools from across the area playing.

The format saw teams of eight battle it out in group stages to determine who would advance to the last-four.

With games being played across the outfield, each member of the team bowled one over, while pairs of batters played two overs each – with runs knocked off for each wicket lost and added in the traditional manner.

There was some fine stroke-play, great fielding and nerveless death bowling across the day, with Sir John Barrow's success seeing them advance to the county finals.
