THE Ulverston trio of Christine Campbell, Liz Chorlton and Louise Steur made home advantage count with victory in the club’s Ladies Open.

In what was a busy competition, with 34 teams of three playing, with two nett scores to count, lady golfers from the Furness Peninsula dominated on another glorious sunny day.

Campbell, Chorlton and Steur triumphed with a nett score of 138, while Barrow Golf Club’s Joan Cresswell, Eileen Grisedale and Sue Shaw came a close second, with 140 nett.

Maureen Jones, of Furness Golf Club, won nearest the pin on the 8th hole, and Jean Irving, of Heysham Golf Club, won nearest the pin on the 10th.

It has been a busy three weeks at Ulverston Golf Club, with the Ladies Open following closely on the heels of the Ladies and Girls County Championships, and the Westmorland and NW Inter-Club Ladies Shield.

Lady Captain Marian McBride thanked the organisers of the Open, the helpers on the day, and the lady golfers who competed and made this day another huge success for Ulverston Golf Club.
