FURNESS Golf Club will look to build on the success of their 145th birthday celebrations with the re-staging of their succession pro-am competition.

The club welcomed a host of professionals to the Walney links in May as part of their anniversary events.

It was the first time in 35 years a pro-am had been held at Furness, and the success of the venture has led to plans to make it an annual event.

In 2018, it will be stages on Friday, May 11, with Furness match secretary Graham Parkin saying: “It is expected to exceed last year's entry numbers and hopefully attract bigger professional names.

“The PGA are confident that, on last year's performance, and by gauging feedback from the pros who participated, the competition is only likely to grow in popularity and become a permanent entry in their annual fixture list.”
