DIVISION One leaders King Alfred inflicted the second and biggest Askam defeat at Sandy Lane this year, triumphing 11-4 in the Sharples Lettings Furness and District Bowling League.

Steve Atkinson, 21-7, along with 21-9 winners Tony Whitehouse and Danny Edmonds, were the men in form for the Alfred.

Earlier in the week, Whitehouse won 21-7 and Atkinson was victorious 21-9 as Alfred amassed 12 points at home to Post Office, Roly West replying 21-4.

Co-op and Police both had key players missing, but it was the visitors who claimed the three aggregate points by five chalks after the games had been shared thanks to a 21-6 win from Matthew Clegg.

Third-placed Lindal suffered a surprising first home defeat, going down 11-4 to Dalton, who have now won six of their last seven matches. Gareth Jones had a fantastic 21-5 win for the Cricketers, with Steve Davey winning 21-9. Ian France 21-5 was the host’s best.

King Alfred A won 11-3 against a weakened Red River to move off the bottom. Wins by Alfred's Peter Roberts, 21-2, and River's David Jones, 21-6, caught the eye.

Roose Community are bottom despite picking up six points at Walney Park. Keith Dixon and Colin White were Park’s best, and Bill Bowes starred for Roose.

Mike Bowyer helped Hawcoat Park beat Post Office 10-4, while Bill Thompson won 21-3 as Salthouse 10-4 beat Red River.
