DALTON CC slipped through the proverbial trap door from Division One of the Alan Myerscough (Ford) Ulverston and District Bowling League last year.

But with perhaps a stronger looking team this year, they are hot favourites to bounce back and take the Division Two title.

This week they entertained a West Mount team who finished well last year, and they ran out comfortable 11-3 victors.

Alan Edwards, Martin Steele and Harry Dagger all had great wins for the Cricketers.

John Cross was best for the Mount, with Craig Butler and Peter Crosthwaite also taking their games by the narrowest of margins, 21-20.

Askam A matched Dalton CC’s 11-3 result at home to Barrow Island and sit joint-top at this early stage.

Bill Askew led the way for the village outfit, with Derek Porter and Roy Proctor playing strong supporting roles.

The Islanders' points were scored by the evergreen Dave Leece, Dave Slowey and Terry Marshall.

Coop A sit just a point behind after two excellent wins. Following up last week's 13-point haul, they welcomed the Dalton CC second string to Dane Avenue.

Although finding things tougher, they ran out 9-5 victors after taking seven games but only claiming the aggregate points by a solitary chalk.

In a game with no single-figure wins, Dave Harwood’s 21-11 victory was the easiest of the night for the home side – a result matched by Arthur Roberts, of Dalton.

Hawcoat Park A are another team to remain unbeaten after two rounds of fixtures.

It was by the smallest of margins as they visited Raglan Street to play Salthouse A. The games were drawn six apiece and the total chalks could n0t separate the sides either as they were also tied at 208.

However, by virtue of the extra aggregate point for being the away team, Park A took the game 8-7.

They had John Lavender to thank, with his excellent 21-5 win, while Mike Singleton must have been hopeful he had done enough for Salthouse when he came off with a 21-9 victory.

Perhaps the biggest surprise so far is how Roose A have started the season. After languishing at the bottom of the table last season, they are the only other team to have won two from two.

In another tight game, they visited Glaxo A, and in another fixture where the games were shared, they took the aggregate points by virtue of great displays from Rob Chissim and Peter Round.

The remaining fixture was played out on Walney Park, as their A-team took on Kings Head.

Sadly, Walney only turned up with 11 men, meaning they were up against it from the start, so they did well to make the game as close as they did, with the Ulverstonians taking it 10-5.

For the Islanders, Ryan Smith was in scintillating form, almost cancelling out the walkover with a 21-2 victory. Ronnie Repton weighed in with a 21-7 win and Harry Tomsett was best for Kings Head.
