ULVERSTON Cons A hit top spot in the Alan Myerscough (Ford) Ulverston and District Bowling League for the first time with a 13-1 win over Roose.

Approaching the halfway point in the season, it is all to play for in the top-flight, with at least half the teams still in with a genuine shout to take top honours.

The fancied Cons team were dominant at home to Roose. Steve Carruthers and Tony Fell were in top for, while Paul Lewis saved the whitewash with an excellent 21-6 victory for Roose.

Salthouse are level on points at the top thanks in no small part to an excellent 11-4 victory at Red River.

Adam Millar continued his fine form with a 21-11 triumph, with Andy Woods and Chris Lloyd playing supporting roles. Paul Thompson took the sweep for the Reddies.

Early pacesetters King Alfred are still in the hunt, sitting in fourth place after their 11-3 win at home to near-neighbours Walney Park.

Martin Barrow, Stuart Price and Keith Mills all had great single-figure successes for the Alfred, while it was a good night for the Park’s Milburn family, as Dougie and Paul both bought the drinks after victories of their own.

Co-op are this season's surprise package and lie fifth after visiting Lindal Moor and coming away with a rare 10-5 win on the tricky green. Ian Hall and Dave Jackson both tiumphed 21-5 at the bottom of the sheet for the Co-op, while Paul Kissock and Andy Armstrong also had single-figure victories for the home side.

Kirkby entertained Glaxo on the village green, with the works side running out 10-5 victors, a result that sees them slot in behind the leaders in sixth place.

Glaxo legend Derek Bell was in top form, with Luke Worsley also showing his class. Kirkby’s star men were Stewart Goodwin and Malcolm Cleasby.

Sitting in third are perennial challengers Hawcoat Park. In their visit to West Shore, they were in top form to take the match 12-3.

Roy Moxham and Kenny Judge showed that practice can make perfect as they both won 21-6. Brian Chelton was the star man for the Shore as he was scintillating in his 21-5 victory, with Paul Lavender backing him up with a 21-7 win of his own.

Teams were also in action in the first round of the KO Cup.

Most of the top clubs progressed comfortably, however, special mention goes to two second division teams who managed to turn over teams from the division above.

Step forward Askam A, who comfortably held off Kirkby in their clash on Lindal, while the other giant-killing occurred at Askam, as Dalton CC A had a fine win over an in-form Salthouse squad.

Players and clubs are reminded that the league are looking for a secretary from next season onwards. As yet, no-one has come forward to fill the position.

Anyone who wants to give back to the sport should contact the committee direct or through their delegate.
