BARROW Island A and Co-op SC A are starting to open a gap on the chasing pack in Deltawaite Ltd Furness Senior Citizens’ League Division Two at the halfway point of the season.

Leaders Island A shared the games with Roose A at Cavendish Park, but claimed the aggregate to win 6-4.

In form for the leaders was top man Barry Crawford, 21-8, while Roose’s Gordon Rigg recorded the same score.

Second-placed Co-op A had a bye, but lead third-placed North Scale by six points, with a game in hand.

North Scale were 7-3 winners against Co-op SC B, with Keith Hurley, 21-4, and Jack Charnley, 21-7, in form. Co-op’s Trevor White weighed in with a 21-4 of his own.

Despite their 7-3 win against Hawcoat Park B, Glaxo find themselves off the pace in fourth. Alan Slater, Rod Lewis and Terry Rhodes triumped to single figures, and Hawcoat’s Steve Liddicott responded in kind.

Hawcoat C fared no better at home to neighbours West Mount A, losing 9-2. Park’s points came from Andy McNicol and George Skyrme ,with Kevin Quinn, Bob Ward and Ronnie Kendall enjoying single-figure success for the Mount.

West Shore A were comfortable 8-2 victors against Dalton CC A at Biggar Bank. Ronnie Clements' 21-8 score was the pick.

King Alfred A came away from Askam as 9-2 winners, with Jim Johnson’s 21-9 win the best result.

There were a number big margins in Division One.

The surprise was Walney Park’s 10- 1 defeat at the hands of the Co-op. But for Doug Millburn, they faced a whitewash, while Dave Irvine, 21-5, Alan Fay, 21-5, and Kenny Judge, 21-7, were in fine form for the Co-op.

Leaders Hawcoat Park prevented Barrow Island getting on the scoreboard as they won 10-0, with Wilf Heywood, 21-3, and Tony Kneale, 21-9, leading the way.

King Alfred proved too strong for Askam, coming out on the right side of a 9-1 margin. Richard Wearing’s win for the Villagers prevented the whitewash, while Roley Price, 21-7, and Joe McDonald, 21-9, were the Alfred's best.

West Shore had a convincing 10-1 victory at Dalton CC, with single-figure successes for Dave Mellen and Alan Crighton. Norman Burns accounted for the Cricket Club’s point.

Lindal are on track for a top-four finish following their 7-3 defeat of Hawcoat Park A, with John Crompton, 21-5, their leading winner. Jim Bawden came out on top 21-3 for the visitors.

Another game to result in a 7-3 home win was Ulverston Cons' triumph at home to bottom-placed Walney Park A. Rae Postlethwaite’s 21-7 was the best result.

West Mount remain in the relegation places following their 8-3 home loss to Salthouse. Ken Howarth was a 21-6 winner for the victors.

The remaining match saw Roose rack up an 8-2 home success against visitors Kirkby, with Terry Fitzsimmons' 21-8 win topping the list.
