WEST Shore claimed a 7-4 win over Kirkby on the difficult Community Centre green in the Deltawaite Ltd Furness Senior Citizens’ Bowling League Division One.

Theirs was one of two away wins on the aggregate in the division – both by the same score – with all the other home teams triumphing.

Leading winners for the Biggar Bank outfit were Martin Lavender, 21-7, Alan Crighton and Dave Mellen, with Peter Lee and Dave Tray heading Kirkby’s response.

Hawcoat Park A also shared the games at Walney Park, but claimed the aggregate points, in no small way due to Ray Williams, 21-8, Ian France and John Gill. The best result was Terry Ducie’s 21-3 for the hosts.

Despite the result, Hawcoat A remain third-bottom, thought with a 16-point advantage over second-bottom West Mount, who must be concerned as they become detached.

There were 10-0 whitewashes for leaders Hawcoat Park and Dalton CC, who shut out Walney Park A and West Mount respectively.

Derek Porter’s win for Askam at the Co-op prevented his side from suffering the same fate. There were single-figure victories for Co-op’s Dave Ryder, 21-4, and Ian Hall, 21-6.

Third-placed King Alfred played fourth-placed Lindal at the Alfred, with the hosts winning 8-2. The result gives the victors a 20-point advantage over their rivals.

Salthouse’s trip along Roose Road proved to be one to forget as they lost 9-1 to Roose Community, Stan Edmondson’s point preventing a whitewash.

Barrow Island were 8-2 winners against Ulverston Cons.

Division Two leaders Co-op SC A were too strong for West Mount A, for whom Kevin Quinn and Mike Hodgson were victorious. Divisional merit leader Dave Harwood triumphed at the top for Co-op.

King Alfred A landed a 9-2 success at neighbouring Walney Park B to move into a share of second place with Barrow Island A; however, the Old Barrow side hold the advantage as they have played a game less.

Roose A made it a club double over Salthouse as they followed on from their first team’s success by taking the A-team fixture 8-3.

North Scale lost 7-4 at home to Hawcoat Park B, a defeat to dent their promotion hopes as they drop a number of places.

Following their 7-4 win at West Shore, Glaxo find themselves locked in a three-way tie for second.
