HAWCOAT Park B gave their Sharples Lettings Furness and District Bowling League Division Two survival hopes a boost by beating Roose Community A 11-3.

Ian France, 21-6, led the way for the victors, with Dave Lee, John Lavender, George McFarlane and Ian McBride all returning 21-9 cards.

It was a productive weekend for West Shore, who overcame North Scale at home 10-4, then – despite have four regular players missing – still had enough in the tank to beat Barrow Island 8-6.

John Pattinson and Geoff Batte both won 21-8 against North Scale, while despite triumphs of 21-4 from Steve Hunter, 21-7 from Dave Leece and 21-8 from Mike Bram, Barrow Island still lost the aggregate by 14 chalks. That was due to Paul Wrathall winning 21-5, Dave Leech 21-8 and Geoff Batte 21-9 for the club side.

Following a 12-3 home defeat to leaders Glaxo SC, Police A are now just five points above the bottom spot. Bobbies captain Nigel Burns and the visitors' Scott Pugh both had excellent 21-5 scores.

Scores of 21-5 from George Dodd, 21-8 from Wilf Heywood and 21-9 from merit leader Dave Hird were enough to give Hawcoat Park A a 9-6 victory at Kirkby A.

The games were shared, but Hawcoat took the aggregate by nine chalks to inflict the first home defeat of the season on the Villagers.

Despite Dave Watterson winning 21-7, Co-op SC A surprisingly lost 9-5 at Askam A, while King Alfred B clinched a 9-6 success at Dalton CC A thanks to Billy Brown's 21-7 scoreline.

Division One leaders King Alfred suffered their third defeat of the campaign, going down 8-6 at Salthouse. The sides shared the games but the hosts took the aggregate by four chalks, mainly due to fine performances by Joe Wardman, 21-9, and Darren Mountford.

Alfred’s defeat enabled Police to close the gap at the top to just six points, after they returned from King Alfred A as 10-5 victors. Stewart Turnbull and Paul Curwen were the visitors' best, with Lee Barnard and John Kolbe similar for the hosts.

Co-op SC are only two points behind third-placed Lindal following a fine 11-3 win against them. Dave Dawes, 21-6, and Peter Garner, 21-9, had outstanding displays.

Despite Stephen Waugh triumphing 21-7, Post Office lost 10-4 at Roose Community. It was Roose’s second victory of the season, but they still trail King Alfred A by 12 points.

One of the sides will be relegated come September, and the upcoming meeting of the two at Roose could decide which one.

Wins of 21-8 from Roger Barrow and 21-9 from Paul Cain helped Hawcoat Park leapfrog Askam after beating them 11-3. Last year's champions are now 22 points behind the leaders, having played a game more.

Dalton CC came out on top 11-4 at Walney Park for a third consecutive victory, which appears to keep them safe for another season. Chris Johnson, 21-9, was the Cricketers' best, with Billy Harding and Keith Dixon deserving a mention for their efforts.

Only one game was played in Division Three, which resulted in Glaxo SC A beating West Mount 8-6.

The works side won the vital aggregate by 11 chalks thanks to Adam Houlden, 21-6, and Scott McElroy, 21-7.
