THE leading pack all built on their momentum in Deltawaite Ltd Furness Senior Citizens’ Bowling League Division One.

Leaders Hawcoat Park had a comfortable 8-2 home win against relegation-threatened West Mount.

Among their victors was merit leader Wilf Heywood, along with Bill McLaughlin, 21-3, and Paul Cain. West Mount’s points came from Ken Robinson and Joe Hawkrigg.

Second-placed Co-op won 7-3 at home to Hawcoat Park A, with Ken Judge and the two Dave’s, Irvine and Ryder, posting wins. The visitors successes came from Jack Curphey, Ian France and Mike Bowyer.

Third-placed King Alfred had a fruitful trip across the bridge, returning from Barrow Island as 9-2 victors.

The Old Barrow side's points came from Bill Burgess and John Hulston, while Peter Roberts, 21-7, and Steve Atkinson, 21-8, led the way for the Alfred.

In the all-Walney affair between West Shore and Walney Park A, the former triumphed 8-2 to add to their opponents' relegation woes.

For the Biggar Bank side, Brian Chelton and Peter McDonald won 21-7 and 21-9 respectively, while Alan McMurray and Ken Hackett both squeezed 21-20 victories in their respective games for Park.

Meanwhile, Walney’s first team played out a 5-5 draw with Dalton CC. The Cricket Club took five of the eight games on offer, but lost the aggregate, thus enabling the Park to claim a share of the spoils.

Kirkby played Lindal in the battle of the villages at the Community Centre, resulting in a 7-3 home win for Kirkby.

They were best served by Malcolm Cleasby, 21-6, and Dave Tray, while Lindal skipper Dave Mackenzie, 21-4, led by example for his side.

Despite only winning three games at Roose, Ulverston Cons shaded the aggregate by two chalks which enabled them to take the three aggregate points, taking the match 6-5.

The remaining encounter saw Askam pick up another home win, beating Salthouse 8-2. Leading results saw Askam’s Cyril Wearing triumph 21-9 – a result replicated by Salthouse’s Jim Weston.

Division Two leaders Co-op A proved too strong for bottom side Salthouse A at Raglan Street, where the home side were unable get a game on the board.

Seven out of the eight Co-op players picked up single-figure wins, with the exception being Terry Weir.

Second and third-placed Barrow Island A and Glaxo SK are tied on points and came up with 8-3 away wins at Hawcoat Park C and Walney Park B respectively.

Glaxo, however, did not help their promotion hopes by conceding a walkover, having turned up a man short.

North Scale beat visiting Askam A 7-3, with merit leader Gordon Walker’s win seeing him continue to top the individual wins table.

Dalton CC A defeated Roose A 6-4 at Ulverston Road, and West Mount A were swept aside by West Shore A at the Mount, losing 10-1 to the Biggar Bank side.
