DALTON CC are all but certain of being Alan Myerscough Ulverston and District Bowling League Division Two champions.

They have swept all before them this year and, with six games to play, hold a massive 53-point lead.

This week, they emphasised their dominance in no uncertain terms as they took on their nearest challengers Co-op A, defeating them 13-1.

Kevin Edwards and Mark Iveson were leading winners for the Cricketers, and Gareth Jones at top man beat one of his merit rivals in Ian Sim, meaning his closest challengers for that prize may well be his own team-mates.

Peter Jeffries saved the Co-op from a whitewash.

West Mount took the opportunity to close in a little on the second promotion place as they returned from Walney Park A with a 10-5 victory.

Steve Hocknell was outstanding in his 21-1 win, with Colin Taylor playing a fine supporting role. Lee Smith and Ken Irvine were best for the Park.

At the other end of the table, any one of three could still pick up the wooden spoon. Police occupy that position at the moment, but have a game in hand on their two rivals.

This week they could only muster two points as they visited the most improved team, last year’s bottom club Roose A – who, having won one game last year, have triumphed in 11 out of 18 this time around.

Seven of the team scored single-figure victories, the best being Norman Whitehouse and George Dodd. Top man Ian Hutt and Alan Slater scored the Police’s points.

Glaxo A did their chances of avoiding the bottom spot no harm as they entertained Askam A, running out 10-4 winners.

Daryl Ashburner and Robert Rogers secured single-figure victories for the works outfit, with Norman Milburn and John Lindsay best for Askam.

It was a close-fought game at Barrow Island, who hosted Dalton CC A and, after drawing the six games apiece, Island took the aggregate by just three chalks.

Dave Leece, James Humphries and Mick Jones all found 13 to be a lucky number as they won by that scoreline for the Islanders, while John Sharples was the star man for the Cricketers.

Another game to end up 6-6 in games was played out at Hawcoat Park, where their second string lost 9-6 to Kings Head, who took the aggregate due to Liam and Tommy Tomsett, and Dave Gilmour, the latter recording a 21-8 win. Leonard Case and George McFarlane were outstanding for Hawcoat.
