FOR the first time in ffteen years the Furness Premier League title will be decided on the final day, with Croftlands and Barrow Celtic going for glory.

Barrow Celtic play Furness Cavs Reserves on Wednesday night at the same time Vickerstown Reserves play Croftlands for the second time in the space of five days.

Celtic have to win and hope that Croftlands drop points at Park Vale for them to take the title.

Croftlands’ 10-1 demolition of Vickerstown Reserves moved them two points clear at the top of the table.

Vickerstown fielded a weakened team due to a couple of regulars having first team call-ups and also having their sights fixed on this Friday’s Terry Clinton Cup final.

Take nothing away from the Croftlands’ performance though. They had a job to do and they carried it out almost perfectly.

Croftlands were into their stride as early as the fifth minute when Matt Dean was on the end of a lovely through ball and fired home. That that was the story of the afternoon with Dean causing havoc and constantly getting on the end of some superb passes from Ben Mooney and Martin Grundy.

Croftlands were 3-0 up inside the first fifteen minutes, with Dean and Andy Currie adding to Vickerstown’s woes.

Dean put the game to bed just before half-time with another good finish after some neat passing on what isn’t the easiest of surfaces, given the recent dry weather.

Croftlands started the second half in the same manner they finished the first and two quick goals from Dean made the scoreline 6-0.

Vickerstown pulled a goal back by the way of a Tony Gooding penalty and the forward line should have done better with two great headed chances sent over the bar.

This was just a catalyst for Croftlands to ring the changes and within minutes they were 8-1 in front after Dean and Currie both found the net after some sloppy defending. Dean finished off the day with seven goals but Croftlands weren’t done and Ben Mooney popped up in the dying minutes to finish off the job.

Elsewhere in the league Walney Reserves were beaten 3-1 by Furness Cavs Reserves.

Matt Lockley scored for Walney before Steve Morgan equalised. Two goals from Kyle Delves gave Cavs all three points.

In the Paul Wilson Cup Britannia were beaten 4-1 by Millom Reserves. Jon Patton (2) Andy Woodburn and Chris Wood scored for Millom. Keenan Crossman replied for the Brit.

In the last round of fixtures in Division One Champions Coniston defeated Barrow Wanderers 6-0, Paul Walker (2) Phil Edmondson (2) Darren Ireton and Dave Allen all got on the scoresheet for Coniston. Crooklands Reserves lost 2-1 against Haverigg Reserves, Bradley Maine with both Haverigg’s goals.

In the West Lancs League Vickerstown finished off their season in style beating Garstang 2-0 at Park Vale. It was the Round brothers who did the damage as Dave Round Junior set up younger sibling Jackson for both of his goals, his first a sumptuous chip from all of 25 yards. Vickerstown finish in eighth place in the table.

Dalton United lost 4-2 at home to CMB. Steve Harkin and Gareth Jones were the Dalton scorers. Fulwood Reserves beat Swarthmoor 7-2. Joe Wilkinson and Rikki Gallagher scored for Swarthmoor who were losing 3-2 before the wheels fell off against the league champions.

Furness Cavaliers lost 9-0 at home to Leyland who themselves will be promoted if they win their last game.

This week’s fixtures include the Furness Junior and Senior Cup finals. The Junior Cup final between Barrow Wanderers and Crooklands Reserves is tomorrow night at Crooklands’ Longlands pitch, (6.15pm kick-off). Then on Wednesday the Senior Cup Final at Holker St will be contested by two West Lancs teams with Millom taking on Askam (6.30pm kick-off).
