On Monday, Vickerstown Reserves lost a seven-goal thriller 4-3 to Barrow Celtic in a Furness Premier League match at Park Vale.
Veteran Andy Higginson found the net for the home side, as well as two impressive youngsters who have been in good form lately, in Brody Luxon and Tom Dawson.
Craig Hyde, James Sloan, Tom Pavett and former Vickerstown player Iaian McDonald were on target for the visitors.
Kirkby beat Millom Reserves5-1 thanks to goals from Matty Bruce, Paul Cleasby, Sam Pinnegor, Dan Marshall and assistant manager Tommy Jackson, who is in his 60s and came on to score a penalty with the last kick of the game and the season. Jon Patton replied for Millom.
Unfortunately, the game proved a bad end to the season for Millom’s Matty Pachul, who suffered a nasty knee injury. We all hope the promising youngster has a speedy recovery and is back on the park next season. Millom would like to thank Kirkby for their excellent response in looking after Pachul.
Millom Reserves were back in action on Wednesday night as they faced Hawcoat Park A in the Furness Junior Cup Final. Millom were trying to emulate their first team who recently won the Senior Cup.
However, it wasn’t to be as Tom Stanwix stole the show with a first-half hat-trick and a fourth goal within five minutes of the restart. Steve Grieve scored for Millom but it was in vain and Hawcoat ran out 4-1 winners.
So the 2017/18 season has come to an end. Pre-season will be just around the corner so enjoy a month off but spare a thought for the groundsmen who will be tending to their pitches almost immediately in anticipation of another tough season.
