GREG Reynolds and Gary Collins were the star men for Barrow as they secured a 40-run victory at home to Fleetwood in Northern Premier League Division One.

Having won the toss and elected to bat first, the home side made a positive start at Ernest Pass as openers Robin Adams and Toby Mowat made 39 and 44 respectively.

Barrow’s middle order wobbled a bit after this, but Reynolds held firm with an unbeaten 59 to help guide them to 225 for 7 at the close of their 50 overs.

The hosts wasted little time in getting stuck into Fleetwood’s top order in the reply, with Nathan Rimmington taking two wickets and Daryl Wearing getting another as the visitors slumped to 20 for 3.

The pair claimed another wicket apiece, but it was spinner Collins who proved the main architect of Fleetwood’s demise.

He finishes with figures of 5 for 48 from 12.2 overs as the away side were all out for 185 with just under four overs to spare.

Among Collins’ victims was Alex Sharrocks, who put on 70 to keep Fleetwood in with a chance before being caught by Rimmington.

The result lifts Barrow up to seventh in the Division One standings and above Fleetwood.

Glen Kermode’s men will be aiming to finish on a high close out the 2018 season this Saturday, although that will be no easy task as they face a potentially tough trip to third-placed St Anne’s.
