THE North Lancs and District Cricket League season has been a staple of the South Cumbria summer since the late 19th century.

The first ball was bowled back in 1892, and now in its 126th year the league is still going strong.

Much has changed over the years. Members teams have come and gone, rules have been tweaked and the name of the league has changed to the North Lancs and Cumbria League.

But whatever the format, bowlers still run up and try to take wickets, batsmen endeavour to protect their stumps and score runs and fielders look to save runs and take catches.

Here are some more shots from the league from the Mail's archives.
