KIRKBY are the new leaders Sharples Lettings Furness and District Bowling League Division Three, following a 14-0 win over lowly Walney Park B.

Dave Slater, 21-4, John Battersby and Malcolm Cleasby, both 21-5, and Dave Turnough, 21-6, mastered the fiery furnace that Kirkby's green is at the moment.

After beating Barrow Island A 12-2, Walney Park A are a point behind the Villagers, but do have a game in hand. Matt McKellar, 21-6, and Paul Cargan, 21-7, were the form men for Park, with Tommy Elliott unstoppable in his 21-9 reply.

Previous leaders West Mount A struggled to master a now tricky Salthouse green and went down 9-5 to the Raglan Street B-team. Steve Buckley, 21-5, and Rob Keegan, 21-7, impressed for the hosts, with Dave Vickers replying, 21-9.

Roose B had two home games, losing both – 11-4 to West Shore A and 12-3 to Glaxo SC A.

Bob Maltman won 21-5 against the works outfit, who themselves had fine efforts from Mike Speight, 21-6, and Scott McElroy, 21-7, while Billy Carson, 21-7, and Geoff Batte, 21-8, were best for the Shore.

Scores of 21-7 for John Brady and Billy Burrows, accompanied by 21-9 successes for youngsters Callum Sharples and Ben Pullin, helped Red River A beat Hawcoat Park C 11-3.

Phil Holmes' 21-5 success for West Shore A failed to prevent his side losing 10-4 at West Mount.

With Police, King Alfred and Lindal all winning 13-1, the position at the top of Division One remains unchanged.

Roose's euphoria at claiming their first win of the season evaporated at King Alfred, returning from the island with only a Graham Gedling win. Jeff Hinde and Gary Hall, both 21-5, and Barry Lowden, 21-9, were Alfred’s best.

Graham Wood, 21-3, and Paul Curwen, 21-9, played well for the Police, with Martin Lavender saving the Postmen’s blushes.

Billy Harding was the only winner for Walney Park, triumphing 21-14 at top man. Consolation for the Islanders was that all their players managed to reach double figures, no mean feat on a running Lindal green.

Hawcoat Park lost ground on the leading trio, as they could only beat Red River 8-6 at home. Dave Shaw was the visitors' best, with Bob Stewart and Roger Barrow carding 21-7 efforts for the hosts.

Ian Hall was best for Co-op SC as they beat Salthouse 10-4. After a two- month absence, Garry Thompson was on form for the losers.

Scores of 21-2 from Kenny Knowles and 21-3 from Don Logan helped Askam beat King Alfred A 10-4. Matt Wall had a great 21-3 performance for the Alfred.

Hawcoat Park A extended their lead at the top of Division Two to five points after beating their B-team 13-2. Mike Proctor, 21-7, was the best of five single-figure winners.

Steve Viney and Scott Pugh both picked up 21-7 victories as Glaxo SC collected 12 points at home to Askam A.

Since his return from the Potteries, Darren Mountford has been in tremendous form for Salthouse A, adding another 21-6 performance to his bow as the Raglan Street side beat third-placed Co-op SC A 11-3.

The Singleton twins, Mark and Mike, won 21-8 and 9 respectively, with Dave Harwood, 21-9, the pick for the visitors.

Although Jack Kolbe won 21-8 and Steve Hogg 21-9, King Alfred B shared the games but lost the match 9-6 to Kirkby A, mainly due to a fine 21-7 display from Shaun Taylor.

Dave Staunton was the best player on view as Roose Community A beat North Scale 10-4, while with the help of Jonny Richardson triumphing 21-7 saw West Shore inflict the same scoreline on Police A.

Barrow Island sit fourth-bottom, jumping two places, after their 9-5 win against Dalton CC A, with Steve Hunter, 21-6, excelling.
