BARROW AFC 1 (Hall 55) SOLIHULL MOORS 2 (Carter 57, Reckford 84pen)

BOTTOM side Solihull Moors inflicted more home misery on Barrow AFC as they claimed a first away win since October.

Moors came from behind to take all three points as AFC made it five home matches without a victory.

There were two early chances for AFC, with Asa Hall seeing his shot saved by the foot of the post by Max O’Leary, before Jordan White headed over the resulting cross.

Keeper Joel Dixon was a relieved man just before the quarter-hour, as he left his area to try to clear a dangerous ball forward, but scuffed the attempt and then took out Jamey Osborne. What could have been a red card was only yellow, with AFC having no keeper on the bench.

At the other end, the Bluebirds were on the end of another questionable decision, this time against them as Grant Holt was played into the area but pushed to the ground, referee Glen Hart rejecting strong calls for a penalty.

The visitors has very little in the way of chances – Darren Carter shooting wide with their best – while Dan Jones had a free-kick stopped by O’Leary and Moussa Diarra and Jimmy Dunne both headed wide for the home side.

Late in the half, Dixon twice tried to take high balls and failed, the first seeing Liam Daly shoot wide and the second leading to the AFC defence scrambling clear.

Solihull tried their luck right from the second-half kick-off, spotting Dixon off his line and beating him, only to narrowly clear the bar.

But Barrow were the side who took the lead as a Jones throw into the six-yard box was headed home by Hall.

The response was almost immediate as AFC switched off in defence and Carter shot from 18 yards to beat the dive of Dixon and level up.

Solihull had strong shouts for a penalty turned down when Jamey Osborne went down on the edge of the area under a challenge, before Dunne met a Jones free-kick and saw his header saved by O’Leary.

Solihull looked the better side into the last 10 minutes and were rewarded with a penalty when Diarra scythed down Osborne, with James Reckford slotting home from the spot.

Barrow could do nothing to claim an equaliser as they fell to a dispiriting defeat.
