Barrow AFC’s plans for Non-League Day had to be shelved after their match against Dover Athletic was postponed due to the massive disruptions to the rail network.

There are frustrations on and off the pitch at the Bluebirds, who had the chance to equal a 114-year-old club record of eight straight league wins if they defeated the Whites at Holker Street.

AFC were expecting a bumper crowd of around 3,000 for the game after reducing adult ticket prices to just £9 and granting free admission to under-16s.

Instead, it will now have to be rescheduled and is most likely to fall on a Tuesday night in the coming months.

While not entirely their fault, Dover’s decision to travel all the way from Kent to Barrow by train on the day of the game is the cause of the problem.

An incident around Milton Keynes led to services from London Euston either being severely delayed or cancelled completely.

After hearing Dover’s squad had got through the worst of the problems, AFC made an effort to put back the kick-off from its original time of 3pm, but reluctantly called the game off just before 1:45pm.
