Scott Quigley's three-year contract with Barrow AFC meant there was pressure on the striker to perform right from the start of his first season at Holker Street, but he has managed to surpass expectations in the last two months.

The 27-year-old is in the form of his life, with his 11 goals so far this season making him the top scorer across the top five divisions of English football, leaving the likes of Sergio Aguero, Tammy Abraham and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang trailing in his wake.

His latest two strikes came in Tuesday night's 3-1 win against Boreham Wood, with both being the sort of finishes the Bluebirds lacked for large parts of last season.

The first was a poacher's finish from Dior Angus' cross, while his second, which secured AFC's seventh straight win, was a clinical strike that never looked in doubt once he was through on goal.

Quigley said: "It's been nice to have a couple of tap-ins lately because all of the goals before that I had to work myself.

"Myself and Dior are starting to get a little bond and I've been setting him up as well, which is really good, and I'm just really enjoying my football at the moment.

"Hopefully the fans are taking to me and we're just focused on cracking on and seeing how far we can go."

Along with John Rooney, Quigley has earned most of the goalscoring plaudits this season, but he is delighted with how his strike partner Angus has managed to find some form in recent weeks.

Angus had been getting praise for his performances before he started to be rewarded with goals, as he followed up breaking his duck at Bromley last week with another goal against Boreham Wood three days later.

Quigley said: "I think Dior has had the foundations all season. I know he's not been scoring, but he's working hard and that's why he's been staying in the team.

"I think it was just a matter of time of when he was going to score and he's been unlucky not to get a couple himself before then, but I thought he was really good on Tuesday night."

Quigley now wants to be part of the Barrow team that equals a 104-year-old club record tomorrow when they welcome Dover Athletic to Holker Street during Non-League Day.

If they pick up all three points, it will draw them level with the eight-game winning run the Bluebirds put together in the Lancashire Combination towards the end of the 1904/05 season.

Quigley said: "First and foremost, we want the three points - I know the record is brilliant, but three points is always our aim and and that's what we're focusing on.

"Dover are going to want to hit back after losing on Tuesday and they're going to come up here and give it a go, break our resilience and we just can't wait for Saturday to come along."
