After finally breaking into the National League's top seven last week, Barrow AFC manager Ian Evatt wants to see his in-form side push up even higher up the table.

A run of five straight wins sent AFC rocketing up the standings, to where Evatt believes is the 'minimum' of where they should be finishing this season, after feeling last year's tenth place was an underachievement.

The Bluebirds actually dropped out of the play-off places on Tuesday night when Barnet made the most of their game in hand by defeating AFC Fylde, although they'll have a chance to return there if they beat leaders Bromley this afternoon.

If they do so, it will be the highest level they will have recorded six league victories in a row.

Evatt said: "I believe we are better than this and I haven't seen anything in this league yet to make me think otherwise.

"That brings a different kind of pressure, where you're expected to win every week and you're being chased, so rather than being the hunter, you're the hunted.

"But the boys are confident, they're a good side and if we can keep our key players fit and in one piece, then we have a chance.

"There's a long, long way to go, this is a tough period we're coming into now, with the next five league games and the FA Cup coming up as well, but the lads couldn't be in a better place.

"The pleasing thing for me is that there is still so much more improvement to come - I still think we are evolving and improving as time goes on and it's exciting for everybody."

Evatt has had it pretty lucky on the injury front so far this season and has a full squad of outfield players to choose from for today's game against the Ravens.

Only back-up goalkeeper Johnny Saltmer (elbow) is unavailable for the trip to South London, but even he is close to a return.

Evatt said: "He's back in training, which is good news. He just needs a bit of game time, so we'll be getting him in a reserve game, I think.

"We've got a Lancashire Cup tie to look forward to against Preston, we've got an FA Cup game to come and five league games, including Torquay and Dagenham away back-to-back on Saturday-Tuesday and teams who are in the top ten."
