Dior Angus believes it is time for some of Barrow AFC’s other players to start contributing in front of goal, including himself, if Ian Evatt’s side are going to continue the form that has allowed them to climb the National League table.

The Bluebirds have won their last five games, during which midfielder John Rooney has scored a magnificent seven goals to take his tally for the season up to nine, just one off what he managed in the previous campaign.

Scott Quigley is not far behind him on eight goals, which have come in his last ten matches in what has been a successful start to his first season at Holker Street since his summer move from Blackpool.

The next highest scorers in AFC's ranks are Josh Kay and Olly Dyson, with two each, while Angus, who has done well to create chances for others, has yet to find the net himself.

Angus said: "I don't want to jinx anything, but we're looking really solid at the back and we're scoring goals at the other end, even though it's only really Quigs and Roons contributing goals so far.

"With the amount of strikers we've got - the likes of myself, Jack [Hindle] and Byron [Harrison] - and there's goals that can come from other areas of the pitch as well, which is good."

Despite the fact Angus hasn't opened his account for the season, Evatt has been very complimentary over how he has played over the course of the campaign, particularly after last Saturday's 2-0 win against Maidenhead United.

While the 25-year-old appreciates the support of his manager, he appreciates it is time for him to start doing what he was brought in for in the first place.

Angus said: "He said I was outstanding on Saturday, but I can't agree because I haven't scored and that's my job.

"At the minute, because we're winning the lads are making up for my lack of goals, but there will become a time where I'm scoring goals and Quigs is finding it hard to find the back of the net.

"That's just part and parcel of being a striker and you've just got to take the chances when they come and keep doing the right things and the goals will eventually come."

Angus' next chance to get off the mark comes tomorrow at National League leaders Bromley, and their artificial pitch, which isn't exactly a favourite of many footballers around the division.

However, Angus has no problem with playing on the different surface, saying: "Personally, I enjoy playing on them. When I was at Redditch, they had an artificial pitch and that really helped me.

"Some of the lads don't enjoy them, purely because they're feeling stiffer the next day, but for me personally, I look forward to playing on them.

"I think they suit the way we like to play football and it's a good surface for the way we like to pass the ball." \
