Barrow AFC could be set for a bumper crowd for their home match against Dover Athletic a week on Saturday, as they have reduced ticket prices to mark this year’s Non-League Day.

Adults will only have to pay £9 to get into Holker Street for the match against the Whites on October 12, with 16-21-year-olds being charged £4 and under-16s being allowed into the ground for free.

Also as part of the plans for Non-League Day, the club have linked up with the Bluebirds Trust and Furness Multicultural Forum to give away 3,500 free advance under-16 tickets to local schools.

Bluebirds manager Ian Evatt said: “Football is universal; wherever you are from and it’s really important to get the next generation of supporters interested in the club. The work the organisers and businesses are doing to make that happen is magnificent.”

Club captain Josh Granite added: “It’s said a lot; but a bigger home crowd really does make a difference. A bumper gate for Non-League Day would be something special and we are really looking forward to seeing the turnout.”

Bluebirds Trust chairman Steve Herbert said: “Non-League Day, a national event, is a brilliant way of celebrating the best of our area and we couldn’t have done it without companies NG Bailey, Edmundsons and Volker Stevin supporting us by sponsoring the giveaway and the day.”

The day will also see Barrow’s players wear the anti-racist message of ‘Furness Families Against Hate’ with a T-shirt designed in a competition for local schools.

There will be a collection for the Furness Multicultural Forum’s Youth Club projects and a Rock Against Hate gig after the match in the club bar.

Multicultural board member Chris Altree said: “Furness has a proud tradition of welcoming families in times of trouble and we are proud to work with Barrow AFC on Non-League Day to highlight the positive work done in our community.”
