Chorley 1 v 3 Barrow AFC

JOHN Rooney continued his fine-goalscoring form as the Bluebirds climbed to seventh in the National League with a fine victory away in Lancashire.

It was a win that continued AFC’s impressive form on the road after a difficult start to the season saw them throw away needless points.

But it didn’t start well for Ian Evatt’s men at Victory Park.

Seconds after the hosts were denied a free kick on the edge of the area, the ball fell to Challoner who fired past Joel Dixon in the Barrow goal.

The lead did not last long though as Rooney stepped up to the spot to convert the first of his double after Scott Quigley was felled in the box.

The visitors began to assert their dominance and got their rewards in first-half stoppage time when superb work from Olly Dyson saw him weaves his way into the area.

His low effort at goal was deflected just over the line and the goal was given after the referee conferred with his linesman.

Both teams traded chances in the early stages of the second half but it was AFC who found the net to seal the win.

Rooney sent Crellin the wrong way and left him with absolutely no chance.

Defensive resolve ensued as the Bluebirds held firm to record their fourth straight win in the league.
